Detail : Paul's forty-ninth single.
Credited to "Paul McCartney".

Released just one week before the issue of "Flaming Pie", this was the first single to NOT appear on a normal black vinyl disc AT ALL.
There was a 7" picture disc single (seen above), and two different CD's all released the same day,
so technically there is no straight forward Parlophone "R" number, only the "RP" version.
The A-side was recorded 22nd February 1995 and features just Paul and Steve Miller, and the single has an unreleased track on
the B-side which was recorded over a year later on 14th May 1996, and features Paul with Ringo and Jeff Lynne.

The first CD version (CDRS 6462) has the same two tracks as the 7", plus 10 minutes of "Oobu Joobu" (Part 1),
Paul's radio show NOT broadcast in England ... aaaargh !
The second CD (CDR 6462) has "Young Boy" coupled with another unreleased Steve Miller duet called "Broomstick"
which was recorded 4th May 1995. Plus, 10 more minutes of "Oobu Joobu" (Part 2).

The "Oobu Joobu Part 1" listing is :

  1. Some Folks Say Oobu
  2. Oobu Joobu Main Theme
  3. Fun Packed Radio Show
  4. I Love This House
  5. Clock Work
  6. Paul talks about "Young Boy"
  7. Oobu Joobu We Love You
  8. Oobu Joobu Main Theme

The "Oobu Joobu Part 2" listing is :

  1. Wide Screen Radio
  2. Oobu Joobu We Love You
  3. Oobu Joobu Main Theme
  4. Brilliant, What's Next
  5. Atlantic Ocean
  6. Paul Reminisces
  7. Bouree
  8. Oobu Joobu We Love You
  9. Oobu Joobu Main Theme

On the rear cover above, Paul says,
"This was another written against the clock. I wrote it in the time it took Linda to cook a lunch for a feature in The New York Times.
It was great to renew my sixties friendship with Steve Miller. Working with Steve again was like falling back into an old habit".

This track is the first rooftop performance Paul gave since 1969, 28 years earlier, when he does a short acoustic set on the roof of the MPL building.
Paul did produce a video for this release, but the best version visually, is a live recording Paul did on 27th June 1997 for the T.V. show "T.F.I. Friday"
in which Paul accompanies himself on a video backdrop.

The picture disc single was released in a plastic cover with just a cardboard insert as a "sleeve".
The picture of Paul was taken by Linda.
The first CD was available in a "double CD" jewel case, with space to hold the second CD plus the track listing and information of the second one.

4th May 1997 - "Young Boy" enters the UK charts at number 19.
That was it's peak position as it quickly plummeted out of the chart.

                                          Chart progression:   19 - 49 - 74 .... out
