George's eighteenth solo single.
The A-side was lifted from the "Cloud Nine" album, but the B-side is an instrumental from
the 1986 film "Shanghai Surprise" made by George's Handmade Films company.
On the same day of original release, a cassette single appears (catalogue number 928131-4) AND a 12" single (W 8131 T).
The 12" has two extra tracks; "When We Was Fab" (Reverse ending mix) and "That's The Way It Goes",
which is a remixed different version of the "Gone Troppo" track.
One week after the single release, a limited edition box set came out, containing the original single in a very slightly different cover,
a full-colour poster and an amusing cut-out with George pictured wearing his Sergeant Pepper outfit (see below !)
Also I've shown the label, which has the solitary dark horse that also appeared on "Got My Mind Set On You", but not on the
first release of this record.
A further week later on 8th February, a 3" C.D. single appears (W 8131 CD) AND a 12" picture disc single (W 8131 TP)
which both have the same contents as the earlier 12".
The 12" picture disc has a similar style picture to the original cover on one side,
and a brilliant sixties style colourful different picture on the other (both pictured below).
One final observation, from "Got My Mind Set On You" the numbering of the singles goes in a descending number sequence, I haven't as yet ascertained why !
31st January 1988 - When We Was Fab entered the singles chart at number 54.
It peaked three weeks later on 21st February at number 25.
Chart progression: 54 - 47 - 33 - 25 - 30 - 49 - 65 .... out
