Paul's eighteenth "solo" album release, and the first new album for almost three years.
On the strength of some very favourable reviews it gives Paul his first number one for almost five years !
Recording Sessions
September 1987.
Paul records with Elvis Costello (real name Declan MacManus), the first track is "My Brave Face".
Nine other collaboration tracks are recorded ... the other three listed as tracks below,
plus "Flying To My Home" which ends up as the B-side of "My Brave Face".
Three other collaboration tracks all appear on Elvis Costello's solo album "Mighty Like A rose", these are
"Lovers That Never Were", "So Like Candy" and "Playboy To A Man".
The final two tracks remained unreleased officially, until the Archive Collection in 2017: "Twenty-five Fingers" and "Tommy's Coming Home".

December 1987 (21st-24th) and January 1988.
Paul records in Sussex, "Figure Of Eight", "Ou Est Le Soleil", "How Many People" and "Rough Ride".
June 1988.
Recording continues on "The First Stone", "Indigo Moon", "Put It There", "Distractions", "This One", "Flying To My Home", "Don't Break The Promise" and "Same Love".
The last two don't appear for 9 years until "Flaming Pie" arrives.
February 1989.
Paul records a new version of "Rough Ride" during sessions for a TV special to be called "Put It There".
At the same session Paul records a new version of "The Long And Winding Road" (the third time he has recorded it)
which will appear as the B-side of "This One" (special edition) and "Party Party" which will appear in the World Tour Pack.
September 1989.
And finally Paul records a new version of "Figure Of Eight" on September 1st 1989 after the release of this album.
This version will appear on singles.
The album cover concept and painting were by Brian Clarke, with the cover photography by Linda.
The inner sleeve is a plain bright yellow solid heavy cardboard, and there is also an insert containing the lyrics along with a group photograph taken by Herman Leonard.
