This album of T.V. advertised hits was originally planned in 1981, but it was delayed by the difficulties of getting permission to use the Double Fantasy tracks. But, when it finally did emerge, it had massive sales. 300,000 copies were sold in the U.K. in just the first week, and by the third it had topped one million, therefore averaging over 55,000 sales per day !

It contains all the hit singles up to this date EXCEPT Cold Turkey, and adds three more tracks from Double Fantasy.

The cover was designed by Chris Whorf with photographs by Annie Leibovitz. The pictures had been taken at John's last official photographic session in December 1980 for Rolling Stone.
The inner sleeve once again has all the lyrics to each track, and although E.M.I. correct the previous lyric error in "Give Peace A Chance", they yet again get the opening whispers in "Happy Xmas" listed incorrectly.
