Detail : | Recorded in November 1966 by The George Martin Orchestra, this soundtrack album was composed by Paul but he did not
appear on it. Therefore this album can not be counted as his first solo venture even though his name appears prominently
on the front sleeve.
Only 24 minutes in length the album is really a really a collection of film cues based on a single Paul tune entitled, "Love In The Open Air". George Martin then assisted Paul in arranging said tune in a variety of styles to fit in with the fifties/sixties feel of the film, including a brass band version and a Duane Eddy twangy guitar style piece.
The film released in 1966 was a "Boulting Brothers Production" written by Bill Naughton (1910-1992) and based on his play
"Honeymoon Deferred". Directed by Roy Boulting and Produced by John Boulting the film starred John Mills, Hayley Mills,
Hywel Bennett, Murray Head, Wilfred Pickles, Marjorie Rhodes, Avril Angers and Barry Foster. Filmed in Eastmancolor it
ran for 115 minutes. The plot revolves around the consternation of a Lancashire family when the son cannot consumate his marriage. The married couple being Hywel as Arthur Fritton and his wife Jenny played by Hayley Mills. The film was released on video on 24th February 1989. |
